StART Festival Mentorship Program

The StART Festival’s Mentorship Program works to empower emerging artists by paying them to make art, support their professional development, and create opportunities for recipients to connect with mentors and peers.

The Program works as a three month mentorship program. Artists will spend about 40 hours with a mentor creating new material. Artists will have an opportunity to collaborate with mentors and other senior artists on exclusive material presented at StART Festival 2021.

Applications open June 15th – July 15th.

StART Mentorship – 2021

The Mentorship: The 2021 StART Festival program will include a 10-week mentorship and creation program concluding in a three-day collaborative showcase located in Kjipuktuk/Halifax Nova Scotia, hosted at The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op of the program’s participants.

This year the mentorship will have professional mentors in dance, music, film and fashion design. Each mentor will devote 40 hours over the summer months and early fall leading up to the Festival. We will be focusing on developing successful applicants artistic skills, collaboration with applicants in other art forms and creating a final show ready to present to the public.

  • Music applicants will receive a fully produced and mixed project to be released by the fall, and an opportunity to collaborate with a Juno award winning artist.
  • Dance applicants will receive a wide range of fundamental training in styles they’d like to learn, as well as an overview on how to create and teach their own classes.
  • Fashion design applicants will get a walkthrough on how to create, brand and promote their own fashion line from one of the most successful clothing line owners we have in the Province.
  • Film applicants will be trained in film theory and production leading up to the Festival. Capturing the Festival with their newly acquired skills as the final step in their mentorship, producing content for all applicants to add to their professional portfolio.
